In summer 2023, I worked as a research scholar at the University of Michigan Library. I created an annotated bibliography Art(ists) in Action: Selected Documentaries for the Arts & Resistance Theme Semester (2023). It was distributed to instructors during the Fall 23 theme semester for course support.
My work included identifying, viewing, evaluating, and curating documentaries at the UM library and online streaming platforms. The bibliography includes 31 documentaries about artists around the world who use their creativity as a way of self-expression, resistance, and activism. It covers various art forms, such as theater, music, public art, cartoons, architecture, and writing. These topics includes war, human rights, racism, gender inequality, LGBTQ+ rights, consumerism, incarceration, and gentrification. Every documentary shows the power of art in changing human minds and shaping the society toward justice and equality.
