During Fall 2023, I served as a creative fellow in the UM Arts Initiative. Our project team, Speak Up, interviewed UM students about their past experience of repressing their thoughts, or not speaking up. We collected stories of fear toward a more powerful figure, of discrimination, of concern for a relationship, of misunderstanding, of shame, of not being heard......

We put these stories in a digital map, marked by the location of where it happened. We hope this map could be a way for participants to process their complicated emotions and restore the courage to speak up the repressed truth in their hearts, as well as to inspire more people to have the courage to validate and advocate for their thoughts and feelings.
